For the duration of your stay with Experience Mex-ECO your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us, and as such we do everything possible to ensure your well-being.

An English-speaking member of staff is always at hand to supervise volunteer work and progress. There is an emergency telephone number available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to contact members of staff in an emergency. This number will be provided prior to arrival Mexico.

On our sea turtle conservation project staff are trained in first aid by local doctors with up-to-date knowledge on illness and problems that we are likely to encounter in this area. There is a medical centre in Tomatlán, 30 minutes from the camp; in cases requiring hospitalisation or monitoring, volunteers will be transferred to Puerto Vallarta or Manzanillo.

If volunteers fall ill whilst they are in Melaque (Teaching English, Special Education and Spanish) there are several doctors’ surgeries, 24hr medical centres and pharmacies. The nearest hospital is in the town of Cihuatlán, approximately 20 minutes drive from Melaque.

Host families are scrupulously vetted and interviewed by our staff, and their homes checked for suitability. We also continually monitor the weather and the political climate in Mexico to ensure the comfort and safety of our volunteers and staff.

Experience Mex-ECO Volunteer Codes of Conduct

On arrival to Mexico each of our volunteers must sign the ‘Experience Mex-ECO Volunteer Codes of Conduct’, stating that they agree to abide by our rules and guidelines that have been put into place in order to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the continuity of our relationships with community groups and host families.
