Q 1. Do I have to pay
to take part in an Experience MexECO project?
A.1. Yes (see question 2)
Q 2. What do I get for my money?
A 2. Please read the information on our prices
page about what’s
included and what’s not included in your fee.
Q3. Can you send me a brochure?
A3. As an eco-friendly company, Experience MexECO provides all of its
information on the internet to prevent mass printing on paper. Please
read all of the information provided very carefully, we do not send
out brochures.
Q 4. Do I have to speak Spanish to take part?
A 4. Please read the ‘Is It
Essential’ section on our Learning
Spanish page
Q 5. When is the best time of year to join a project?
A 5. Please read the relevant section of our ‘Dates
and Prices’ page
Q 6. Would I be taking work that locals could otherwise be paid to
do?
A6 6. Absolutely not. Our Community Project volunteers support
professionals in their work, rather than taking it from them. If at any time
a volunteer takes on a roll that would otherwise be taken by a paid local,
it is because the organisation/group involved cannot afford to pay for someone
to fill that roll.
Our Conservation volunteers support local community members to do a job that
they would otherwise do themselves voluntarily, loosing out on their paid employment
to do so.
Q 7. How much should flights from the UK cost?
A 7. Flights from the UK should cost anywhere between £450 and £650,
depending upon the time of year during which you wish to travel, the
airline and/or travel agency you use to book your flights, and the
destination you chose to fly to.
Q 8. Where in Mexico should I arrive
to?
A 8. We recommend flying to either Manzanillo or Puerto Vallarta, as
they are both very close to our project sites. However, you may find
it cheaper to fly into Guadalajara. Please take into account that there
will be extra costs incurred if landing in Guadalajara because it usually
involves an over night stay and then a 5-7 hour bus journey to your
project site.
Q 9. How many other volunteers will be on my project?
A9. We do not send volunteers where there is no need for them, meaning
that you may well be the only volunteer on your project during your
stay, but at least one member of our UK staff will always be there
too. In the case of Community Projects UK staff are living close by
to volunteers, and are available 24 hours a day. Conservation Project
volunteers live in the same camp as our UK and local staff, and will
often be joined by students form local universities.
Q 10. What skills and/or qualifications do I need?
A 10. Experience MexECO considers each application separately, and
your acceptance onto one of our projects will depend upon your references
and your reasons for wanting to take part. No qualifications are needed
to take part in any of our projects, but all volunteers must be enthusiastic
and hard working. Please read our ‘Is
It For Me?’ page.
