Mexico has
a diverse and rich flora and fauna and a vibrant culture
so many volunteers chose to travel in Mexico during and after
their placement.
Traveling around Mexico is made easy for our volunteers because both our community
and conservation projects are located within 2 hours of international airports,
making national and international flights an option. The bus network throughout
Mexico is excellent and is a cheap and efficient way of traveling across the
country.

Weekends
in nearby tourist towns during your placement
The quiet seaside towns of Melaque and Barra de Navidad are located a little
over 60km from the turtle camp. Both of these towns offer a relaxing weekend.
There is a range of activities to take part in, and the atmosphere is friendly
and welcoming.
Although a six hour journey by bus
from turtle camp or Melaque, Guadalajara
is also a must see. Being the second largest city in Mexico, it
is definitely worth a visit on a weekend break from your project.
It is very traditional with lots to see and boasts a variety of
museums, pretty plazas, mariachi bands and plenty of tequila! There
is also a fantastic range of restaurants and bars as well as cinemas
and shopping centres for those who need a dose of civilisation.

For
those who wish to let their hair down to go and party, then
4 hours north of Melaque is the touristy town of Puerto Vallarta.
Puerto Vallarta is probably the most popular beach resort
on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It boasts beautiful white
beaches and a huge array of fun activities. There are many
clubs, bars and restaurants, along with many adventure or
sport activities most of the year.
There are lots of other interesting
towns to explore on the west coast of Mexico during your free time
on your volunteer placement.

After
your placement
Traveling around
Mexico after their project is a popular option with many of our
volunteers.
Mexico is so diverse that you can experience a range of climates and festivals,
cuisines and types of architecture by traveling around on the cheap and efficient
coach service that operates throughout the country. You could be exploring the
jungle temple ruins one day, and to be exploring a colonial town or relaxing
on a Caribbean beach the next.
