For the duration of your stay with Experience MexECO your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us, and as such we do everything possible to ensure your well-being.

An English-speaking member of staff is always at hand to supervise volunteers’ work. There is an emergency telephone number available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to contact members of staff in an emergency. This number will be provided prior to departure from the UK to Mexico.

At the turtle conservation camp, staff are trained in first aid by local doctors with up-to-date knowledge on illness and problems that we are likely to encounter in this area. There is a medical centre in Tomatlán, 30 minutes from our Sea Turtle Conservation Programme,  and in cases requiring hospitalisation or monitoring, volunteers will be transferred to Puerto Vallarta.

If volunteers fall ill whilst they are in Melaque (Community Projects) there are several doctors surgeries, 24hr medical centres and pharmacies. The nearest hospital is in the nearby town of Cihuatlán, approximately 20 minutes drive from Melaque.
Host families are scrupulously vetted and interviewed by our staff, and their homes checked for suitability.

We also continually monitor the weather and the political climate in Mexico to ensure the comfort and safety of our volunteers and staff.

If you wish to find out more about living conditions and other information about your placement in Mexico, visit our apply now page and download our information packs on what it is like to live and volunteer in Mexico, or gather advice through browsing through the links on the essential information page.
Members of staff continually monitor volunteers’ progress and implement any changes required to enhance or improve our volunteers experience and help them get the most out of their time abroad.

Experience MexECO Volunteer Codes of Conduct

On arrival in Mexico each of our volunteers must sign the ‘Experience MexECO Volunteer Codes of Conduct’, stating that they agree to abide by our rules and guidelines that have been put into place in order to insure the safety of our volunteers.
