Why not
learn Spanish whilst participating in one of Experience MexECO’s
other projects?
Or, for those of you who are not interested in taking part in another
project, and would just like to develop your language skills in a Spanish
speaking country, then please contact
us for availability of lessons.
Our lessons take place with local teachers supported by Experience MexECO
staff. Classes may be arranged in Melaque or Puerto Vallarta.
Is it Essential?
Speaking
Spanish is not essential to take part in Experience
MexECO volunteer placements, but it will definitely help you
to become much more immersed into local culture and traditions.
There
are over 20 languages spoken in Mexico, but, the official and most
widely spoken language is Spanish. Throughout your stay with Experience
MexECO there will always be a member of staff who speaks
Spanish and English. Any visits to other towns, for example, trips
to Puerto Vallarta do not usually cause a problem for those who
do not speak Spanish, as many of the locals in shops, bars, bus
stations, etc speak at least some English.
Each of our projects provides an excellent opportunity to develop existing Spanish
skills as you will be living and working with local families and professionals.
Practicing with our Mexican staff and/or host families means that many volunteers
can communicate very well in Spanish after three months.

We do, however, recommend that all volunteers learn at least some basic
phrases, especially if you are planning to travel on after your project.
Download our Basic
Spanish phrase pack to get a head start
on your Spanish. For those who are really interested, then the best way
to learn before your trip is to take lessons or to study using books
and CDs/tapes that should be readily available through your local library. |
