Hi,

Article 164 of Mexico’s Immigration Law includes this statement:
“Los titulares de las condiciones de estancia de visitante por razones humanitarias y de residente permanente cuentan implícitamente con permiso de trabajo.”

In relation to the permanent residency visa through the ‘family reunification’ route, can you confirm if the permanent residency visa includes the right to work? The information seems to contradict what is written here: https://embamex.sre.gob.mx/espana/?option=com_content&view=article&id=512

Thanks!

I am a permanent of Mexico. I am a citizen of the United Staes. I am trying to find out if I can stay beyond 180 days with no consequences from the Us immigration or any agency of the United States. I know there is no problem with Mexico, but does the United States require me to return in 180 days? I have been trying to find an answer and I have until June 23, 2025 before I have to leave.
Thank you very much. Nancy G.

Hi Xander, we’ve added a note to the article about the import of personal household goods (with link to a related article). The time restrictions for residency card holders are already cited in the article.

Hello Jerry,
We’ve heard that SOME airports are no longer asking foreign residents to register their departure, but many still do.

In any event, if you forgot, when you get back show your residency card and explain the situation to the immigration official. They might ask for some proof of your departure date, so take your flight receipt with you.

The most important thing is not to re-enter Mexico as a tourist.

See this article for details about procedures

I didn’t know this was required after having received my residency card during my last trip.
