The quiet seaside towns of Melaque and Barra de Navidad are located a little over 60km from the turtle camp; both of these towns offer a relaxing weekend. There is a range of activities to take part in, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming (click here to see tours and activities in the area).
Although a six hour journey by bus from turtle camp or Melaque, Guadalajara is also a must see. Being the second largest city in Mexico, it is definitely worth a visit on a weekend break from your project. It is a very traditional city with lots to see and boasts a variety of museums, pretty plazas, mariachi bands and plenty of tequila! There is also a fantastic range of restaurants and bars as well as cinemas and shopping centres.
For those who wish to let their hair down to go and party, then 4 hours north of Melaque is the tourist resort of Puerto Vallarta; one of the most popular beach resorts on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It boasts beautiful white beaches and a huge array of fun activities. There are many clubs, bars and restaurants, along with many adventure or sport activities most of the year. |
